Many caravan fridges use a refrigerant gas which now incurs a federal government levy.

Originally, refrigerant gases were left out of the carbon tax deal, but the government has applied a separate levy to the gas equivalent to the tax! 

Companies like Engel Australia expect to be paying $75,000 a year in these levies. And guess who is going to pay for it at the end of the day! 

The main assumption behind the levy amount seems flawed – that 100% of the gas in a fridge WILL escape into the atmosphere, and cause a 1300-fold impact on the environment (the "waming potential" of the gas).

Anyway, just a heads up, that we will all be paying more for fridges, including repairs where gas is required.
