Camper-Trolleys require no after sales installation, and dispense with the need for tools or electrical wiring. They also negate the use of your jockey wheel, eliminating the possibility of damage to your drawbar and/or jockey wheel. Camper-Trolleys can operate on a variety of surfaces (surface must be firm) thanks to its two heavy duty rubber tracks driven by planetary geared motors which are powered by a rechargeable lithium-ion battery. The Camper-Trolley moves at 9 meters per minute. Camper-Trolley is a revolutionary hi-tech product manufactured according to the most modern design principles combined with cutting edge technology

Caravan Window Leaks

August 13, 2015 by rvsc

Many older vans end up with leaking windows. This can be due to the installation of the window, or the window fitting itself. Sometimes, it is indirectly caused by a leak from another area of the van like a sheet join or a corner mould. Leaks tend to take a long time to become visible inside a van – by which time there can be considerable damage already caused to the framing and interior plys.

Simply re-sealing around a window is not always a great solution to fix a leak. Neither is using sealants around a window from inside the van. This is unfortunately something we see quite a bit of – it prevents water from dripping down the interior wall, which may seem like it has fixed the problem – but generally just means that the water is forced further inside the wall of your van, causing damage you are unable to see.

A proper fix is to fully remove the window, diagnose extent of damage to the interior frame, and refit the window properly, using a double sealant method.

Caravan Hot Water System Anode Replacement

August 13, 2015 by rvsc

It is vitally important that you replace the anode in your caravan or RVs hot water system every 6-12 months. These sacrificial anodes prevent your hot water system reservoir tank from rusting. Many people are unaware they need regular maintenance. The time frame depends on usage, and the quality of water going through the system.

We stock anodes for all popular RV hot water systems like the Suburban and Atwood units.

Caravan Reversing Cameras

August 12, 2015 by rvsc

There are plenty of options for reversing camera systems for your caravan or motorhome. They range in price and features, so there is always an option for your budget.

Wireless Reversing Systems – are limited to say the best. All systems tested in-house have very limited range, and are more suited to a small 4WD vehicle, not a trailer type installation. Reception is always patchy and the overall quality is just very poor.

Single Camera Systems – are a good option, and here there are plenty of brands/options. You pay for what you get. General issues we see are the cheaper kits have terrible quality plugs/sockets and this causes a lot of issues. Also, most of these cheaper systems, don’t have a proper curly cable between the tow vehicle and the caravan. Higher quality kits include special steel sockets with mounting brackets for fitting to the A-frame of the van, and the bumper of the vehicle; and also include a curly cable (known as a suzi coil) that gives you a perfect solution for any towed van.

Dual Camera Systems – are a great option, and now our default recommendation. The issue with single camera systems mounted on the rear of a caravan or motorhome, is that you need to make a choice whether the unit points upwards – so you can see traffic behind you, or downward – so you can see you bumper for reversing manoeuvers. The dual camera systems overcome this and allow you to have both fields of view – and just switch between them on the screen on the dash.

Triple Camera Systems – these add the 3rd camera to the tow vehicle so you can easily see your tow ball to make hitching SO much easier! These integrated into the same screen on the dash and are a very worthwhile addition.

Baintech DC-DC Power Connector

August 11, 2015 by rvsc

A breakthrough innovation that provides a real alternative to Andersen plugs – giving you an easy to connect & disconnect solution for caravan heavy duty charge and fridge DC power lines.baintech-dc-dc-power-connector

The Trailer DC to DC Power Connector, gives you an easy and secure connection to your vehicle trailer. Incorporating a vibration-proof stainless steel spiral locking mechanism enabling a firm connection between the battery source and your DC-powered equipment.

Perfect for caravans, trailers or boats, the DC Connector has silver-plated copper alloy terminals & high impact UV protected glass-reinforced thermoplastic housing which prevents corrosion.

Andersen plugs have been the default solution for heavy duty cable connections between a tow vehicle and a caravan. They are well suited to connecting larger diameter cable, but have always been awkward to connect and disconnect, especially as they get older and corroded. The Baintech Trailer DC to DC power connector gives you the benefits of being able to use large diameter auto cable, with the simplicity and a large knob to pull the socket and plug together.

Trailer Breakaway System Maintenance

August 8, 2015 by rvsc

Capture

According to ADR 38/02: Every trailer having a ‘Gross Trailer Mass’ over 2 tonnes must be equipped with an efficient ‘Emergency Brake System’ which will cause immediate automatic application of its ‘Brakes’ in the event of the trailer accidentally becoming disconnected from the drawing vehicle. ‘Brakes’ so applied must remain applied for at least 15 minutes.

In addition to this rule, some states (ACT and Victoria) also require that the brakes must hold the trailer stationary on a 12% gradient for this specified amount of time. In New South Wales, there is an additional requirement that the charge condition of the trailers on board breakaway system battery can be monitored from within the towing vehicle, as well as be charged whilst travelling by the tow vehicle. As this is a State based regulation, this is only applicable to trailers being registered in NSW.

A number of inspections carried out recently on several older model caravans has proven that many of these vehicles no longer have a fully functional breakaway system. If for some unforeseen reason the trailer detaches completely from the tow vehicle, the SAFETY of the occupants of the tow vehicle and other road users, is relying completely on this breakaway system functioning correctly. Simply pressing the “TEST” button on the Breakaway Unit is not an adequate test of this system.

Caravan TV Coax Fittings

August 7, 2015 by rvsc

Common cable sizes are RG6 and RG59 and your caravan may use a combination of different sizes.

RG59 Cable

RG59 cable has been around for a long time. This cable used to be what most people used for their cable TV connection. However, modern signal requirements have made this cable less popular in the last few years. RG 59 has a smaller conductor than RG 6, which means that it can’t achieve the same signal quality as RG 6. The way its shielding is designed also means that it doesn’t keep Gigahertz level signals inside the conductor very well. This is why RG 59 probably isn’t a good choice for your TV or internet connection.

RG6 Cable

All of the new demands required by, satellite signals and broadband internet made it necessary to find a more effective coaxial cable. RG6 cable was designed to fulfill these requirements. It has a larger conductor, which gives you much better signal quality. The dielectric insulation was made thicker as well, which means it is much less likely to carry an electric current that could damage your sensitive electronics. RG 6 is also made with a different kind of shielding, which allows it to more effectively handle Ghz level signals.
